No. 6 of 6 in The Lighthouse Series
Lindau Lighthouse
Lake Constance, Bavaria, Germany
Why it belongs in the series
Unusually for this series, Lindau's lighthouse guards a lake. It stands at the harbour entrance of the island town of Lindau, facing the Bavarian Lion statue across the water, with the Alps on the horizon on clear days.
How to get there
Lindau's old town is on an island linked to the mainland by bridge and causeway. The island station puts the harbour within easy walking distance, and lake ferries also call here.
Best time to visit
Summer is the liveliest season, with boat traffic and outdoor cafes. Clear days in spring or autumn can offer the best mountain views.
Good to know
The harbour promenade is flat and easy to walk. It has been possible to climb the tower in the warmer months, but check locally for current access.
